Adult Dermatology

Skin growths, both noncancerous and cancerous, as well as many skin conditions become more common with age. Skin cancers and precancers can grow in size and become harder to remove if they are not addressed early in their development. Regular skin examinations from a board-certified dermatologist can help detect these lesions earlier and in some cases prevent very serious consequences.

In addition to skin cancer, a number of other skin conditions begin or continue through adult life. The average age that people develop psoriasis, a common autoimmune skin condition, is 28. Chronic conditions, like rosacea, often appear after adolescence and persist through the rest of the affected individual’s life. Many adults continue to suffer from acne into their 30s, 40s, and 50s, while others may never develop acne until these later stages of life.
