While facial wrinkles and fine lines are often regarded as one of the most notorious signs of aging, the condition of a person’s hands can often reveal much more about their age than their face. Now, there’s a simple, injectable solution to both of these aesthetic concerns: RADIESSE®.
At Aesthetics by RidgeView Dermatology, our ultimate goal is to connect members of our local community to high-quality cosmetic and medical dermatological care. Our newest practice, Aesthetics by RidgeView Dermatology, is located in Forest, Virginia. While this location is our aesthetic treatment headquarters, most of our cosmetic services can also be administered at our other two office locations.
What is RADIESSE®?
RADIESSE® is an injectable dermal filler that is used to fill in wrinkles and loose skin on the face and hands. It does so by bringing both instant volume and long term rejuvenation to the area where it is injected. The effects of a single RADIESSE® injection session can last for a year or more, giving patients beautiful results that require fewer follow-up appointments to maintain.
While most people are potential candidates for this treatment, it is not safe for individuals that are currently pregnant or have a history of anaphylaxis.
How it Works
RADIESSE® is comprised of Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. During treatment, this solution is injected into the dermal tissue of areas affected by wrinkles, fine lines, or skin laxity. Once injected, these CaHA microspheres provide immediate volume correction.
As the microspheres begin to metabolize in the months following treatment, they leave behind the body’s own natural collagen. The framework of stronger, newer collagen helps tighten, tone, and strengthen the skin in the treatment area and continues to provide correction even after the last of the CaHA microspheres have left the body.
What to Expect from Treatment
Each RADIESSE® treatment typically takes no more than 15 minutes to complete. Because this injectable is indicated with lidocaine, a mild anesthetic, the injection process is fairly comfortable and well tolerated. Once treatment is over, patients can return to their normal routines. This is because RADIESSE® injections feature virtually no downtime. While side effects like mild irritation, itching, swelling, tenderness, bruising, and discoloration are possible after treatment, these typically resolve themselves within a few days.
While other dermal fillers require periodic injection appointments to maintain any improvements in the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, RADIESSE® requires only annual injections to maintain beautiful, natural-looking results.
