Its staff includes three board-certified dermatologists: Dr. Jason Givan, Dr. Samantha Hill and Dr. Carrie Cobb. We offer a wide variety of both medical and aesthetic services. Among the more popular of our aesthetic services is professional waxing.
Dr. Givan earned his medical degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine, and he has received board certifications from both the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Dermatology. He has also completed a Fellowship in Mohs surgery and cutaneous oncology at the University of Massachusetts. In 2011, he moved to Lynchburg and later founded RidgeView Dermatology.
Dr. Hill earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. She has received board certifications from the American Board of Dermatology in both general and pediatric dermatology.

What Does Waxing Involve?
Waxing is an aesthetic treatment used to remove unwanted hair. RidgeView uses a soy-based and anti-bacterial substance called Nufree Nudesse instead of conventional wax. It is not made with honey or sugar, and it, therefore, does not stick to the skin. Aestheticians have been using Nufree Nudesse for over 35 years, and it can be safely used on all skin types and parts of the body. Common waxing areas include the following:
- Upper lip
- Bikini area
At the end of the session, the aesthetician will apply an antiseptic cream called finipil to destroy any bacteria and soothe the treatment site. Finipil can also prevent ingrown hairs. If the client uses it every day, it can even slow down hair regrowth. The combination of Nufree Nudesse and finipil can keep clients free of hair for months; most clients will need to get waxed only once or twice a year.
What Is the Baumann Skin Typing System?
Dr. Leslie Baumann developed a skin typing system about ten years ago. According to her system, there are 16 different skin types distinguished by four different characteristics: oily or dry, sensitive or resistant, pigmented or non-pigmented, and tight or wrinkled. Sensitive skin is further subdivided into four types: acne, rosacea, allergies and stinging.
Knowing a patient’s skin type can help both the dermatologist and their patient. It can help the dermatologist decide on appropriate treatments and medications, and it can help the patient choose the best skin care products for their skin. Conversely, it will help both the dermatologist and patient determine what they should avoid. For example, people with sensitive skin should generally avoid astringents or strongly fragrant, for such products are likely to irritate their skin.
